We are excited to announce the launch of DPA’s latest pencil microphones: the 2012 cardioid & the 2015 Wide Cardioid!
DPA Microphones have created not one, but two new mics specifically designed for live application.
Both mics combine a durable, reinforced construction with natural and precise sound reproduction – important characteristics for the live stage.
Like all other DPA microphones, both the 2012 & the 2015 deliver pure, transparent sound quality.
The mics’ thicker and more robust brass body construction makes it durable, resistant to corrosion and tolerant against metal fatigue. In addition to the heavy-duty materials used, a protective black chrome finish on the mics’ handle and grille ensures more graceful ageing.
DPA 2012 Compact Cardioid Mic
The 2012 is the best all-round, generalist mic that you can find to cover a wide range of close-miking needs on the live stage. It is a robust and reliable condenser mic, best for single instrument pickup. It has a far better transient response than any dynamic microphone, which allows it to pick up the most delicate sound with tremendous accuracy.
With a max SPL peak (before clipping) of 156 dB, it can handle loud instruments like drums, guitars and horns. Which other mic can cope with extremely high SPLs, and still capture very soft sounds?
DPA 2015 Compact Wide Cardioid Mic
The 2015 captures a balanced sound of the entire group of instruments, like a drum kit, when used as overheads.
It can still capture sound evenly across the entire drum kit, even when positioned closer than usual. This close positioning results in a stronger signal from the drum kit and therefore less bleed from the stage.
Although the 2015 can be purchased as a single mic, it really shines as a matched stereo pair, selected with +/- 1.5 dB sensitivity tolerance. The compact design of this stereo pair ensures an open, natural sound pickup without blocking any of the exciting action on stage.
The 2012 & 2015 were designed to work seamlessly together to capture the true sound of a live stage setup.
